AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Governor Rick Perry and members of the Legislature will honor soldiers from Texas killed in combat. Lawmakers from both chambers will crowd onto the House floor today to join relatives of the fallen soldiers for a tribute. It will be a solemn start to the final weekend of the legislative session.

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (AP) - A federal jury in South Texas has convicted a former district attorney on corruption charges. Former Cameron County District Attorney Armando Villalobos (vee-yah-LOH'-bohs) was accused of paying more than $10,000 to state District Judge Abel Limas to participate in a scheme that unintentionally allowed a convicted murderer to escape.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - The State Board of Education is putting an end to a special panel that was reviewing a controversial curriculum system. Creators of the C-SCOPE program voted yesterday to take down all online lesson plans effective August 31st amid continued complaints. That prompted the board to scrap its review.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Senators have confirmed 3 of Governor Rick Perry's appointments to the University of Texas System regents. They are: re-appointed vice chairman Paul Foster, new appointee and Houston businessman Jeff Hildebrand, and new appointee and McAllen attorney Ernest Aliseda. The three have told lawmakers they have no intentions of trying to fire popular Austin campus president Bill Powers.
