CROSS ROADS, Texas - One Denton County family is mourning the horrific loss of their pet. Someone took their dog and skinned him.
Denton County sheriff’s deputies confirmed someone took Brian and Susanne Hunter’s King Cavalier Spaniel named Bonny from their yard in rural Cross Roads, Texas.
Brian Hunter said Tuesday morning he let Bonny out in the front yard, which is lined with an electrical fence. After a while he noticed he was gone. He searched for several hours before finding Bonny's mutilated body in a nearby field.
Bonny's vet Dr. Lucette Bell said she’s never seen anything like it before. She believes someone stabbed Bonnie, made several incisions to remove his skin and then dumped him.
"Sick. Sadistic. You can't be normal and do that to just a loving little pet," she said.
Dr. Bell believes the person knew what he or she was doing.
The Hunters are heartbroken. Susanne Hunter said Bonnie was a member of their family.
"I'm sure that he probably went to them with his tail wagging. And right up to the very end he was probably wagging his tail," Brian Hunter said tearfully.
He’s concerned that there is a very disturbed person out there who will more than likely kill again.
The Denton County Sheriff’s Department is actively investigating the case. The Hunters are also offering a reward for anyone who can give deputies information that leads to an arrest.
