LANCASTER, Texas - A couple in Lancaster is battling Child Protective Services over custody of their two young children.

CPS thinks Walter and Stacey Arnold abused their 6-week-old son. But they argue a medical condition is to blame.

Stacey Arnold said on Labor Day she took baby Kieran out of his car seat and he began screaming. She took him to Children's Medical Center because his right leg was swollen.

CPS spokeswoman Marissa Gonzales said doctors evaluated the baby and determined his injuries were not accidental.

"They say they thought there was abuse in the home and that kind of fracture would only be caused by abuse. Perhaps that's true in a normal child, but we don't think he's normal," said Walter Arnold.

The Arnold's are convinced their newborn son has inherited a bone disorder. Walter Arnold has medical documentation showing he was released from the military because he has a bone condition.

The couple said CPS also took custody of their 18-month-old daughter Aubrie even though she showed no sign of abuse.

"The grandparents and the parents are within their rights to try to talk to the judge about placement for the child. But for now until we know more, the safest place is going to be in foster care temporarily," Gonzales said.

In the meantime, the Arnolds have requested that doctors test their son for a bone disorder. They are also hoping a judge will allow their daughter to live with her grandparents.

Gonzales confirmed doctors have conducted one test the baby, but the results of that test will take about six weeks.
