FORT WORTH, Texas - California Gov. Jerry Brown made news last week by bashing Texas for being short on cutting-edge, high-paying jobs. So why are some businessmen bringing their tech company to the Lonsestar State and leaving behind the Golden State?

It helps that two of the largest stakeholders at Kaonetics are graduates of TCU's MBA program but they say Fort Worth is the perfect place to grow their business.

The company has 25 patents in the approval process for scanning devices that could one day help the military disarm roadside bombs before they do damage, or help the TSA to increase accuracy and efficiency screening passengers and bags.

According to Gov. Brown, the perfect place for the cutting edge technology is his state. "Google was not created in Texas. Neither was Facebook or Twitter. I mean, they've got some oil over there and … five times more minimum wage jobs than we do," he said of Texas.

However, a study commissioned by the Texas Public Policy Foundation comparing Texas to California showed Texas economically outperformed California in several areas including jobs -- creating 129,000 in 2010 while California lost 112,000.

And Kaonetics representative Kant Hankins said bringing his company from California to Fort Worth will allow it to flourish.

"Patriotic people. Great business environment. The economy is strong. The defense industry is here," Hankins said.
