Stolen Guns Recovered from Lake Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT, Texas - Divers from the Wise County Sheriff's Department are fishing a collection of valuable guns out of Lake Bridgeport.

Investigators say the weapons were dumped there following a burglary that happened about a month ago near Chico.

On May 15, investigators say, at least two suspects stole a gun collector's safe from his home.

They kept several of the weapons, according to authorities, and then threw the rest along with the gun safe into Lake Bridgeport. Some of the guns are said to be antique and valuable.

Of the most concern, say investigators, is what the suspects were planning to do with the assault-style rifles.

Of the 18 guns that were stolen, authorities have recovered 12. They're planning to use a crane Wednesday to pull the submerged safe from the lake.
