Trials Start in Children's Starving

DALLAS - Jury selection is set today in the trial of a man accused of locking three children in a Dallas hotel bathroom for as long as nine months.

Alfred Santiago faces three charges of injury to a child plus a charge of continuous sexual abuse.

Jury selection for the trial of the children's mother, Abneris Santiago, is scheduled for Tuesday. She faces three counts of injury to a child.

Court officials say opening statements for Alfred Santiago's trial will begin Wednesday, with her trial to follow.

Police found the three children shut inside a hotel bathroom last summer and believe they were there for at least nine months.

Officials say the 11-year-old girl and her 10- and 5-year-old half brothers were emaciated and filthy.
