Pregnant Woman Killed in Front of Kid

HITCHCOCK, Texas - Authorities say a southeast Texas man is accused of shooting his pregnant girlfriend to death in front of her 10-year-old daughter.

Thirty-three-year-old Bernard Stinson Cunningham was charged Sunday with murder in the death of 31-year-old Erika Johnetta Gee. Hitchcock Police Chief Clay Kennelly says the unborn child, due in about four months, also died.

Cunningham is accused of shooting Gee three times late Saturday and then fleeing. He turned himself in about 20 minutes later.

He told police the shots were accidentally fired while the two were struggling with the gun. But the police chief says the child's statement disputes that.

Cunningham remained in Galveston County jail Monday. Bail was set at $500,000. A jail official did not have an attorney listed for him.
