Man Poisoned Mom's Coffee, Police Say

DALLAS - A Dallas man is jailed for allegedly trying to poison his mother's coffee with kitchen cleanser, according to a police report.

Jessie Vasquez, 43, is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and family violence.

Police say on Sunday morning, Vasquez walked into Dallas Fire Station #752 and told one of the firefighters, "I just put poison in my mother's coffee."

While one of the firefighters called police, paramedics rushed to Vasquez's mother's house.

Police arrived, put Vasquez in a squad car, and drove over to the house in the 4300 block of Wyoming St., just a few blocks away.

Maria Vasquez, his mother, answered the door and told police she had already swallowed one cup of coffee.

Police examined the can of coffee and detected a white powder inside along with a chemical smell.

Under the cabinet, the police officer found a canister of Comet cleanser that smelled remarkably similar.

Mrs. Vasquez at first said she didn't want to go to the hospital, but a short time later began feeling sick and decided to go to Renaissance Hospital for observation.

Vasquez was arrested on an outstanding warrant from Grand Prairie.
