Inabinet Saddler has scars on his face, but he doesn’t remember how they got there.

On June 26, the 17-year-old, known as “Little Squeaky” in the Dallas music scene, had done a show at a club on Pacific Avenue. In the parking lot he and another man began yelling at each other.

Pictures show what happened next. He was hit on the right side of the head allegedly with a baton by Deputy Constable Guadalupe Frias, who was working an off-duty security job.

The Dallas police report says Frias told officers he attempted to break up a fight and Saddler fell to the ground and hit his head.

But four witnesses told police there was no fight. They said Saddler and another man were verbally arguing and that Frias came up from behind Saddler and struck him.

Frias later changed his story to police saying he struck Saddler in the arm and he fell to the ground.

Doctors at Baylor told police the teen’s injuries were consistent with being hit on the right side of his head with an unknown object. And the injuries on the left side happened as he hit the cement.

Dallas police have referred an aggravated assault case against the deputy constable to a grand jury.

Frias is off the streets, but still working a desk job.

Constable Beth Villarreal said she understands Saddler and his family's frustration, but as a constable she must follow due diligence process.

An attorney for the family wants Villarreal to ask the Texas Rangers or the FBI to investigate the incident.

The incident shouldn’t just be swept under a rug, attorney Steven Baer said.
