ROWLETT, Texas - A Dallas-area man with a bullet in his back is suing a mile-away shooting range.
Michael Domin of Rowlett lives 1.2 miles from the Garland Public Shooting Range. Domin on Thursday sued for damages, alleging a stray .22 caliber bullet struck him June 12 while he was in his yard .
Domin's lawsuit requests that the outdoor range ban longer-distance ammunition and install more safety barriers.
The Dallas Morning News reported Friday that Domin's 10 days in a hospital led to $200,000 in medical bills.
A long surgical scar on his abdomen remains as a physical reminder of the incident. Doctors operated on Domin after the bullet entered his back, nicked his pancreas and lodged in his lung, where it remains.
Rowlett police determined the bullet was on a downward trajectory, but police spokesman John Ellison says "there is no actual evidence that would support the fact that the bullet was fired from the range."
A message to the business Friday by The Associated Press was not immediately returned.
