GRAPEVINE, Texas - Two boats were destroyed and a third was badly damaged when fire broke out at a marina on Grapevine Lake early Friday morning.
A man sleeping on his boat at Silver Lake Marina called 9-1-1 around 4 a.m. when he was awoken by the popping sound of the fires.
Deputy Chief Kent Short of the Grapevine Fire Department said all of the boats involved were about 30 to 35 feet long.
Two of the boats were towed out to open water and allowed to burn themselves out, and submerged near the breakwater, said the chief.
"The one boat that stayed in the marina, it still remains afloat, and we pulled it ashore to do some overhaul on it," said Chief Short.
The marina itself received moderate damage from the flames.
No one is thought to injured in this morning's fires, but the department will send divers down later Friday to check the sunken boats to make sure no one was on board either one.
