DALLAS - A Dallas police officer and a DPS trooper were both shot Monday night while trying to serve a warrant to a suspected bank robber.

According to police, a multi-agency task force had been searching for 55-year-old Jerry Lee Gray for several months.

They tracked him to his girlfriend's apartment, but she told him he wasn't there. However, she gave them an address where he might be.

Officers arrived at the Oakglen Apartments in the 2100 block of 52nd street in South Oak Cliff around 9:30 p.m. and got inside the suspect's apartment.

That's when police say Gray opened fired on the officers with a shotgun. The officers returned with a barrage of gunfire, killing the suspect.

The exact condition of the officers isn't known, but a police public information officer says their injuries are not life-threatening.

The DPS trooper is at Baylor Medical Center, and the Dallas police officer is at another area hospital.
