HASLET, Texas - A 3-year-old boy who may have been playing with matches was critically burned Friday in a northern Tarrant County house fire.

The fire broke out at about 3 p.m. in the 100 block of Gammil Street in Haslet. A sheriff's deputy on patrol noticed the smoke and called firefighters.

He told FOX 4 reporter Brandon Todd he saw a woman and two children in front of the house when he arrived. The woman asked her son if he had been playing with matches, he said.

The boy was taken by air ambulance to a local hospital. He reportedly had burns on his face and chest.

His mom and 2-year-old brother were also hospitalized for smoke inhalation.

Firefighters from three communities helped to put out the flames.

They have not yet confirmed the cause of the fire.
