LUBBOCK, Texas - A man on a bicycle and two passengers in an SUV were killed in an accident near Texas Tech University early Sunday morning, and now the driver may face intoxication manslaughter charges.
Brian Cody Hawthorne, 26, was arrested but immediately taken to the hospital in critical condition, according to the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal.
Investigators believe he was driving the 2001 Toyota Tacoma that rolled over the curb and struck 68-year-old Courtland Whitmore at 1 a.m. Sunday.
The SUV continued and struck a fire hydrant, then overturned, killing passengers Arturo Almaguer, 23, and Kendrick Johnson, 27.
Several other vehicles were involved in the crash, but no one else was seriously injured, according to the paper.
