New Chimp Born at Dallas Zoo

The Dallas Zoo released pictures of a newborn chimpanzee, born Sunday, April 19. The chimp was born to Ramona, age 21, and KC, age 12.

This was the first birth for Ramona and KC, and the Kimberly-Clark Chimpanzee Forest will be temporarily closed while the other chimpanzees become accustomed to the new family member.

According to zookeepers, the baby appears to be healthy, but they will wait until Ramona and her baby have bonded before they administer routine health exams and confirm the gender.

The Dallas Zoo is home to eight chimps, with the addition of the new baby.
