DALLAS - A woman and her 6-year-old daughter were stabbed to death and the child's 9-year-old brother was hospitalized Tuesday morning after a brutal attack by the woman's husband, police say.
Police found the lifeless bodies 32-year-old Lovetta Armstead and her daughter Jazzman Montgomery in a house at 3844 Morning Springs Trail in Oak Cliff about 9:30 p.m. Monday.
Detectives say Armstead had recently filed for divorce from her husband, 38-year-old Gary Green. The two had been married less than a year.
According to a news release, Armstead dropped off her two sons, ages 9 and 12, at church on Monday night. When she returned home with her daughter, Green was waiting.
Police say he attacked the both of them, although the medical examiner has not yet made the official ruling on Armstead's cause of death.
Green then allegedly went to the church, picked up the two boys, and returned home, where he attacked the 9-year-old with a knife.
Police say for some reason, he stopped his slashing attack on the child and left in his car. The 12-year-old boy was not injured.
Green drove himself to the Southeast Dallas Police substation about 2:15 a.m. and surrendered.
He is now facing a capital murder charge and is being held on $1 million bond.
