LANCASTER, Texas - A man believed to be responsible for shooting and killing two people in San Antonio barricaded himself for about five hours outside a gas station in Lancaster.

San Antonio police said 31-year-old Alonzo Mendoza is wanted for fatally shooting two employees at a Dollar General store Wednesday morning.

Dallas County constables said he was spotted speeding and weaving in and out of traffic on Interstate 35 in Lancaster just before 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Constables stopped him at a Shell gas station on Pleasant Run Road. When they approached the car, he reportedly had a gun pointed at his head in one hand and a cell phone in the other.

Mendoza threatened to commit suicide, constables said.

Sheriff SWAT, DeSoto and Lancaster police officers joined in the standoff. Video from SKY 4 showed the gas station surrounded by dozens of cruisers.

It finally ended just before 6 p.m. when officers tossed flash grenades and tear gas into the Mendoza's car. He didn't fight as they pulled him out and handcuffed him.

He was taken to a nearby hospital. The sheriff's department said someone shot him in the chest, but they aren't yet sure if it was an officer or if the wound was self inflicted.

San Antonio detectives are in town and are reportedly waiting to question Mendoza.
