SAN DIEGO,Ca - A lettuce truck had a different type of green inside at the US-Mexico border in San Diego.
US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers discovered 1.5 tons of cannabis inside during the failed smuggling attempt in south San Diego.
Agents say a 27-year-old male Mexican citizen with a legitimate Border Crossing Card tried to get through the border crossing in a tractor-trailer.
When agents stopped to inspect the truck they discovered cellophane-wrapped packages hidden within the lettuce shipment.
In all, 136 packages of marijuana, weighing 3,025 pounds and worth an estimated $1.8 million was unloaded, according to CBP officers.
The driver was arrested and turned over to US Immigration and Customs agents.
