WEATHERFORD, Texas - The Weatherford school district will soon begin charging students an extracurricular activities fee as a way to help balance the budget.
District officials said parents will receive a fact sheet on Monday with details about the plan for the fall.
Any student who wants to participate in sports, a school play, band, etc. will have to pay a one-time $60 fee. The fee is per student, not per activity.
Also, there is a $180 cap for families and students eligible for the free or reduced lunch program will be exempt.
The district expects the fee to bring in about $100,000, which will help cover the cost of providing the various activities.
