ARLINGTON, Texas - The Arlington school district is considering loosening its rules on ripped jeans.

Nina Alaniz said she has gotten in trouble for wearing her jeans to school.

“I had to get my mom to come bring me some pants and what they did was actually when she got up here they made me wear sweatpants,” she said.

Holey jeans are in fashion for teenagers, but the district doesn’t allow them. Now a committee of parents, students and administrators will decide if the holes are okay.

The district already allows students to wear shorts. It's 35-member Code of Conduct Committee is considering permitting torn jeans as long as the rips are below the knee.

The idea was proposed by a school principal concerned about student and staff productivity.

“You have to call the parents to come up to the school and it takes a part of the day to do something like that,” said district spokeswoman Amy Casas.

The committee will make its recommendation and the school board is expected to vote before the beginning of the school year.
