WEATHERFORD, Texas - A North Texas high school campus is coping with the loss of two students in one week, including a 17-year-old girl who died Tuesday morning in a car crash.

Sarah Brinkman, a Weatherford High School senior, was involved in a multi-vehicle crash on FM 51 near TX 171 as she was headed to class.

The Department of Public Safety reports she swerved and her car collided head on with another car. But investigators aren’t sure yet why it happened.

Colorado native Keith Defoe, 65, also died in the crash. His wife, 67-year-old Marcella Defoe, was seriously injured.

Family and friends said Brinkman was getting everything she could out of high school.

“She was highly involved in our journalism program. She was on our Melon Vine [yearbook] staff,” said Principal David Belding.

Brinkman was also part of the leadership council, student council and Roo Crew spirit group.

“She was the type of student that even those kids that maybe she didn’t know real well she reached out to them and made sure that she befriended them and was kind to everyone,” Belding said.

Emotions were already frayed at the high school after the recent death of 17-year-old Jordan Magee.

Magee collapsed outside the school last week and died because of a medical condition at a local hospital.

“He was a junior this year and had many many friends,” Belding said. “Once again he was a kid that was very kind to other students.”
