THE COLONY, Texas - At the Horizon Church in The Colony, the Lance Care Team wasted no time in thinking up ways to nurture the family of a 9-year-old boy who police say took his own life last week at school.

Montana Denton Lance died this past Thursday after apparently committing suicide at his elementary school .

The Lance Care Team is a core group of eight members whose mission is to think of every possible need of the Lance family; and then follow through and make it happen.

"I think the last few days have been hard, but I think going forward is going to be just as hard but in a different way," said Rachel McClincey, a team member in charge of taking care of Montana's 4-year-old brother.

To date, the Care Team says the family has received enough food and toiletries to last awhile. And checks from as far away as Pennsylvania and Georgia have been sent to help. But helping the family with their fragile state of emotions, even months from now, won't be easy, they said.

The Care Team is planning a benefit, silent auction, and contacting local businesses for in-kind gifts.

They will open their doors at Horizon Church in the 5300 block of S. Colony Boulevard at 9 a.m. Saturday to people want to make posters or cards for the family.

They also hope to organize a prayer chain around Montana’s school, or perhaps a prayer walk in his neighborhood.
