On the field they are the fiercest of rivals: Oklahoma University quarterback Sam Bradford, who is last year's Heisman trophy winner, and University of Texas quarterback Colt McCoy, who is a favorite to win this year's Heisman.
"I'm a competitor. I want to win," McCoy says.
"I put a lot of pressure on myself to win," Bradford countered.
But off the field, Bradford and McCoy are friends. More than that, even. They're brothers in Christ, and the latest addition to a Christian effort called "I Am Second."
"We talked to Bradford first," said program coordinator Mike Jorgenson. "He texted Colt McCoy and said, 'Hey, I'm in. Are you?' And so we filmed them both within about two days of each other."
The campaign is the work of a Plano ministry called E-3 Partners. It's designed to draw the curious to iamsecond.com where users can see other taped testimonials from rock stars, actors and athletes.
Sam and Colt's video was launched to coincide with the annual Texas/OU Red River Rivalry shootout.
"There's always going to be a comforting feeling knowing somebody's got my back, no matter how I play," says Bradford in his ad.
"Without Him, I would not be where I am," said McCoy in his ad. "Without Him, I am nothing."
Billboards have gone up around Dallas, located so that visitors coming to the game from either Oklahoma or Austin are bound to see them.
The I Am Second website has exploded on the internet, far beyond the geographical boundaries of North Texas.
"We have over 1.2 million visits from 203 countries, even though the marketing is only going on in Dallas," said Jorgenson. "It's the reach of the Internet. People look at it, they love it, they forward it to their friends. And, it goes across a lot of boundaries that way."
