A $97 million lawsuit has been filed against Phi Beta Sigma fraternity for the death of a college student from Dallas.
Donnie Wade II, a pre-med student at Prairie View A&M, died Oct. 20 while going through early morning exercise drills outside Hempstead High School.
Fraternity members and others pledging admit Wade was hazed, according to police statements.
The lawsuit states an innocent bystander who saw him collapse tried to offer medical assistance, but was told to leave by a fraternity member.
The attorney filing the suit said he hopes fraternities and sororities nationwide will discontinue the outlawed tradition of hazing.
