HILLSBORO, Texas - A North Texas preacher has been arrested on charges of sexual assault and aggravated sexual assault of a child.
The alleged incidents took place more than 20 years ago. And the preacher, Apostle Nathaniel Calhoun, was the subject of an investigation by FOX 4’s Shaun Rabb in 1995.
Calhoun is a former Dallas street preacher and pastor of an Oak Cliff church who moved to outside Hillsboro more than two decades ago.
Fifteen years ago FOX 4 talked to a group of young women who claimed that when they were teenagers they were victimized by their spiritual father in the compound where they lived and worshiped.
’When he actually started having sex with me I was crying because it hurt,’ Michelle Collier said in 1995.
She agreed to show her face on camera because she said she had nothing to hide.
After the interview Calhoun denied any wrong doing and blamed the girls.
The investigation stopped because the young women were hesitant then about talking to police. They have since put their hesitations aside.
’It was hard for us because we were still kind of under their spell,’ Collier recently said. ’I just felt really bad for him and then it just kicked in. You have messed up. You have destroyed so many people’s lives.’
Calhoun was arrested on multiple charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child and charges of sexual assault.
’These crimes do not go away or dissipate. They follow you forever,’ said Sheriff J.T. Lyon.
The Hill County Sheriff’s Department said Calhoun refused to take a polygraph test.
He will now have his day in court and Collier said she can’t wait.
’Nathaniel Calhoun needs to go to jail because he did what he did. He needs to go to jail and he needs to face the consequences for what he did. We were children and it’s not going away,’ she said.
