DALLAS - The young fashion editor horribly injured in an accident with a spinning airplane propeller has been making amazing progress, her parents said at a conference organized by ‘I Am Second.’
‘I Am Second’ is an internet ministry that uses taped testimonials to spread the gospel. Jeff and Cheryl Scruggs have embraced it to talk about their daughter’s accident and what’s sustained them.
“We’ve just really been working together as a family, not really sure what the next day was going to hold. The night of the accident not even knowing if she was going to live. So that was pretty intense,” Cheryl Scruggs said.
What happened to 23-year-old Lauren Scruggs has touched hearts across the globe. After a flight to view Christmas lights the beautiful young fashion editor walked into a spinning propeller, losing a hand and an eye.
Cheryl Scruss has been blogging about her daughter’s recovery on her CaringBridge.com website.
“Her brain injury was very very serious and for her to be functioning as she is right now. Very cognizant and she’s working hard at sentences. She’s already writing. You know, she has a magazine so she’s already writing and doing some stories,” she said. “We’ve been talking to prosthetics people and that’s difficult but she’ll come through it.”
Apparently Lauren’s twin sister Brittany literally feels her pain.
“Twins, if you know anything about them or if you are a twin, there’s a connection there that most people don’t understand including the parents,” their mother said.
The Scruggs said they attended the conference to thank the community of faith that sustains them.
“So grateful that God has given us a second chance, so grateful that Lauren is saved. So grateful that she loves the Lord, that she has a firm foundation in Jesus Christ and from that knows that God is using this for a purpose. And knows that there is going to be a greater purpose than she has been experiencing in the last six weeks,” Jeff Scruggs said.
