MESQUITE, Texas - A baby miniature donkey that was stolen has been reunited with his family.

Ed and Angela Preston said Sunny disappeared after someone stole their truck and trailer a couple weeks ago from a parking lot near Town East Mall in Mesquite.

They feared 5-month-old show donkey would die if he wasn’t found and properly cared for.

Fortunately someone did find Sunny less than 15 miles away from where he was stolen.

The Prestons said a man and his daughter reportedly spotted him roaming around the area near Interstate 635 and Centerville Road in Garland. They picked him up and returned him.

The couple thinks Sunny either escaped or had been released.

He was wearing his halter and had a few scrapes, likely from being tied up. Otherwise he was in good shape and was happy to see his “dad” again, the Prestons said.

Mesquite police confirmed the stolen truck was found last week at an apartment complex off Northwest Highway. However, the stolen trailer is still missing.

No arrests have been made, police said.
