A woman accused of cutting off her infant son's genitals is set to go to trial in Houston.
Jury selection was scheduled to begin Thursday in the trial of Katherine Nadal. Prosecutors say the 28-year-old mother was high on drugs when she used an unknown sharp cutting instrument to mutilate her then 5-week-old son Holden Gothia in March 2007 at their suburban Houston apartment.
Nadal's attorney says his client did not harm her son and blames the attack on the family dog, a 12-pound tan and black dachshund.
Holden, now 2 years old, survived, but the severed body parts were never found.
Nadal, in jail since being charged with injury to a child, faces up to life in prison if convicted.
