Flaming Water Plagues Family's Home

FORT LUPTON, Colo. - The water in one Colorado home is officially flammable.

Amee Ellsworth had her water tested after she discovered it caught fire near open flames.

Turns out, the water is contaminated with natural gas.

"Shock is one word for it. Terror is probably more effective," Ellsworth said.

Experts said the gas is likely leaking from one of eight natural gas wells within a half-mile radius of the home.

The wells are owned by two different gas companies, which have offered to build a water treatment facility for Ellsworth's house.

However, Ellsworth said while the treatment plant is a nice gesture, it doesn’t address the issue of gas seeping into the ground.

"If I was to go pull a strawberry up out of my ground that I freshly grew and handed it to you, would you eat it?" she said.
