(MYFOX NATIONAL) - A YouTube video called "Whack-a-Kitty" has gone viral, but it's also creating controversy.

Robert Bellusso and his fiancee created the video as a way to showcase kittens they were putting up for adoption. The kittens loved playing in the box, so they cut holes in it and decided to make their own version of "Whack-a-Mole," the popular arcade game in which players take a mallet and bonk the moles on the head.

As of Thursday evening, the YouTube clip had just under 800,000 views. "We never expected it to get popular," Bellusso said on Fox News .

The video shows the kittens getting love-tapped in the head. But some people are crying animal cruelty.

"It didn't look like they are harmed in any way, however I wouldn't agree that pushing them even gently back into a box over and over constitutes animal-loving behavior??" wrote supersmithy on I-Love-Cats.com's forum . Stud u like commented on Digital Spy , "Cruelty to animals should not be encouraged. There are too many psychos out there."

Bellusso assured it was all in good fun. "It's completely light-hearted, everyone knows kittens like to play," Bellusso said. "No kittens were harmed at all."
