The Mavericks beat the Nuggets in Game 4. But who won the battle of words between Mark Cuban and Kenyon Martin? Well, it's kind of hard to tell.
For Martin, communication was more about shouting and making obscene gestures as he left the American Airlines Center Monday night.
But who could blame him? Some angry Dallas fans allegedly poured beer on some of his supporters in the stands. Even LaLa Vasquez, girlfriend of Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony, got into it: FOX 4 video shows her being escorted from her seat after a confrontation, and she was not smiling. Mavs owner Mark Cuban admitted in his blog early Tuesday morning that the whole thing has "gotten out of hand."
Here's how the whole thing started: back at the end of Game 3, Cuban told Kenyon Martin's mom that her son was part of a team of thugs as he left the court after the team's disappointing last-second loss.
That didn't sit well with Martin, a graduate of Dallas' Bryan Adams high school. "You got a problem, you say it to me," he said after practice on Monday.
Martin elaborated further that he'd "take care of it," and that he was a "face-to-face kind of dude."
But that one-on-one interaction didn't really take place at Game 4. In fact, it was more of Martin yelling at Cuban across the crowded court after the game, calling him something that rhymed with "maggot butter trucker."
At 1:34 a.m. Tuesday, Cuban wrote "An Apology to Kenyon Martin's Mom" on his blogmaverick weblog.
"I should have not said anything and I was wrong," Cuban wrote. "Hopefully you will accept the apology and we can move on."
Cuban goes on to invite Martin's family to stay in his suite or another suite free of charge where they feel secure "when the series comes back to Dallas."
"We have great fans, but all it takes is a few people to ruin it for everyone," Cuban said in an e-mail to FOX 4's Matt Grubs today, "and we wanted to be proactive."
