At least three people were killed and several others injured in a crash in North Texas on Friday afternoon.
The incident happened in the 5700 block of southbound Hwy 121 in Haltom City, where a cargo van left the road and hit a tree, officials said.
According to Haltom City Police Sgt. Eric Peters, one woman and two men were killed in the crash, while the survivors were transported to Harris Methodist and John Peter Smith hospitals in Fort Worth.
The seven survivors had injuries ranging from cuts and bruises to major injuries requiring admission to Intensive Care Units.
The van, which was mangled by the crash, had only two seats and two corresponding seatbelts, officials said.
The crash closed the two right southbound lanes and the southbound service road, causing a significant traffic jam.
It was not clear what caused the wreck but witnesses said they did not hear the sound of screeching tires and believed the driver did not apply the brakes. They said the van may have lost its right, front tire just before crashing.
