Chicken Truck Overturns, Fouling Traffic

A semi truck carrying thousands of live chickens overturned during rush hour on I-30 in Rockwall County Monday morning, blocking traffic on the Interstate for hours.

The accident happened on east-bound I-30 in Royse City.

Many of the birds were killed when the transportation cages toppled from the rig.

Hundreds more escaped and ran onto both sides of the roadway and into the median, where they huddled together as emergency workers cleaned up the wreckage.

It's not clear if the driver was hurt.

Traffic was diverted to the access road.
