As one of the Good Day reporters, my day begins at an insane hour... 3:30AM. After 8 live shots I switch gears and help people take care of "What's Buggin' You?"
I joined Fox 4 News in May of 1999 after spending time in South Texas and Wisconsin. I am a native Texan, graduated from the University of North Texas with a degree in Radio/TV/Film.
Immediately after graduating I landed my first job as an anchor/reporter at KRGV in Weslaco, TX. For five years I covered it all: tropical storms, droughts, crime, politics, federal corruption trials and spring break at South Padre Island (my favorite).
I then made the move across the country to WDJT, CBS-58 in Milwaukee where I was the station's Bilingual Reporter. I also anchored daily Spanish newsbreaks for the Univision affiliate. During my time there, I did my share of Green Bay Packer stories (of course), covered snow blizzards and Summerfest. Having survived two harsh Wisconsin winters, I said goodbye to the Cheeseheads and moved my family back to Texas.
I've been in the business now 20 years. I've covered thousands of stories and really enjoy helping people out. But one of the most rewarding things about my job is meeting people who say that I am a role model for other Hispanics. I grew up in a big family in a modest home speaking Spanish. I didn't have the best grades in school. I didn't get a full scholarship to college. I certainly encountered my share of obstacles. But I didn't let that stop me. My message to young Latinos: "Don't let anyone tell you you can't do anything".
I spend my time off with my wife and 2 teenage kids. I also enjoy photography, outdoor activities, and food (eating it not cooking it).
I am on the Executive board at UNT's Radio-TV-Film Department. I am also the Vice President of Broadcast for the Hispanic Communicators DFW, the local chapter of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.
