If you are a woman who loves the outdoors, hunting and fishing, this week's Lone Star Adventure is custom made for you. FOX 4's Richard Ray takes us to Fort Worth and DIVA-WOW.
It began in 1999 with a few women who liked to hunt and shoot together. Back then the group was called Texas Women's Shooting Sports/DIVAS. Now it's grown into the largest women-only outdoor organization in the world.
Thanks to all that growth, the group required a name change. Founder Judy Rhodes says they wanted to keep the "DIVA" part of the name so they changed it to DIVA-WOW Women Outdoors Worldwide.
The DIVAS have grown remarkably. There are now groups in all 50 states and in 19 countries. The DIVAs teach women from all walks of life disciplines of the outdoors including fishing, shooting, archery, dog training and more.
DIVA-WOW outings lack the competitive tension that many have found when men are involved. Participants says working with a group of women allows them to relax and have fun.
Members say DIVA-WOW goes beyond learning. The members help each other in life, creating a sisterhood like none other.
