The Lone Star Adventure series has become a creature of habit. It is that time of year again when FOX 4's Richard Ray takes us to the State Fair of Texas to check out what's cool and what's new.
A new roller coaster has fans screaming but those looking for a break from the noise and the neon can find all kinds of new exhibits just a few steps away.
The Greenhouse on the Midway is the new home to the Garden Railway, an air conditioned option that celebrates all things green. For adventures in culinary tastes, one can always try out the fried food winners. This year's most creative was Fried Beer and Best Taste Texas award went to the Fried Frito Pie.
Some of this year's new additions are actually very old. Two giant sculptures originally created for the 1936 Texas Centennial celebration were taken out of storage, given a new paint job and put back on display. These sculptures were originally taken down 50 years ago because people complained they were too anatomically correct.
In the Hall of State, Oncor and the Dallas Historical Society have a new exhibit on legendary Cowboys coach Tom Landry that's drawing big crowds. Organizers say this exhibit is a big hit and is generating quite a buzz.
One of the favorite new exhibits is the Children's Aquarium at Fair Park. It currently houses two 50,000 gallon shark and stingray displays. Visitors get the chance to feed the stingrays by hand. The Aquarium is now being run under the vastly improved Dallas Zoo. It is only about 60 percent complete and is in the process of being renovated and updated.
