Baylor Regional Medical Center in Plano has a unique program for a certain group of people who just can't stay away. Retired registered nurses can still do what they love to do as volunteers in The Nightingales program.
This is The Nightingales motto: "Ask permission to do a task and report back when you have completed that task." They don't act on their own; they assist nurses and help patients.
Gigi Stelle and Jo Cole, two members of the program, are both retired RNs who missed the hospital and the patients. Both are thrilled to be back.
Gigi is an oncology nurse and Jo's focus is cardiac care. During their careers both women excelled at helping patients and their families with supportive care and information. Now they use their training one day a week.
The nursing staff is delighted to have The Nightingales because their volunteer service fills a need that the nursing staff is too busy to fill.
The Nightingales would like to welcome more members. Any registered nurse with an active or inactive license can call 469-814-4419 to get more information about joining the program.
