High Schoolers Invent Electric Generator

Fort Worth High School students Ignacio Ramirez and Jairo Valdez won a state competition with their invention -- a hydro electric generator.

The pair started with an alternator from a junkyard, added a water wheel and other modifications and ended up with a generator.

The demonstrated the invention by placing it in the Trinity River and generating electricity.

They hope to use the invention in Third World countries.

The students now move to the national competition, in which they compete for a large scholarship.
