St. Barnabas Honors Late Classmate with St. Baldricks Efforts

Posted:

It's been 11 months since our last shave day for St. Baldrick’s, and with the help of thousands of kids from dozens of area schools, we raised $1.1 million.

That money goes to hospitals in Chicago for cancer protocols and clinical research, and lives are being saved.

Nevertheless, too often lives are still being lost, like Patrick McNamara's, who after 11 years of fighting finally succumbed to brain cancer.

In his own special way, McNamara is still here, which was quite evident when we visited his old school St. Barnabas in the heart of Beverly.

What a welcome we received.

What's really cool is his classmates have placed the hat he was wearing into a glass box for everyone to see.

"Pat was always very strong when it came to the hard stuff, and so every time I think about giving up, I stand my ground and never give up," McNamara’s former classmate Liam Clair said.

His family is touched by all the support, and his little sister Cara said she misses him so much.

"I miss him helping me with my homework. He was pretty smart," Cara said.

Over the last five years, we've raised more than $4 million for the cause.

Already 50 schools have signed up this year to be part of out effort and I challenge your school to get involved, too.

The White Sox, Spark Energy and Great Clips are adding their support as well.
