Our Good Day Prep Star of the Week is a senior wrestler from Bowen High School on the South Side who made history last weekend.
Ronzel Darling won the Public League title in the 113 pound weight class last Sunday at Chicago State University. That in itself is a pretty big deal, but Darling’s done it before; in fact, he's won a city title three times before.
The victory over Lane Tech's Danny Carlson on an injury default makes Darling just the second four-time Public League champ ever. Darling is 22-0 this year, and he told the Chicago Tribune his ultimate goal is to win state.
Darling’s a good student too; he's got a 4.1 GPA. His favorite athlete isn’t a wrestler, it’s South Side hoopster Derrick Rose.
Congrats to Darling, his coach Ron Wilson and the Bowen Boilermakers, who took second place in the city.
