Chicago's Most Wanted Ruben Sanchez Update

Posted:

Ruben Sanchez changed his name but hadn't left town. That's what FBI agents learned about Sanchez when we first profiled him on "Chicago's Most Wanted", last April. Now they are hoping for a few more viewer tips will actually lead to his arrest this time.

The FBI's Ross Rice says, "Following the broadcast last year, we received tips from a number of your viewers, who all recognized Sanchez. He was working in bars on Rush Street under the name "Ruben Alvarez." Investigators believe Sanchez also saw our show and took off. Rice adds agents missed Sanchez by about twelve hours and as a result, a reward of up to ten thousand dollars is now being offered for information leading to his arrest.

Sanchez has been on the run for the last three years. He was part of a child pornography investigation conducted by FBI agents in 2008. That's when an undercover agent went online to check out a lime wire 'peer to peer' sharing site and found child porn images being downloaded. Agents traced those photos back to a computer at a house in Bolingbrook and then eventually to Sanchez. Investigators say Sanchez was staying at the Bolingbrook house with relatives while he was in between jobs. A year later, Sanchez was charged him with possession of child pornography. They believe Sanchez initially disappeared the same day agents searched the house. During the search, Rice says agents found "29 compact discs, each of which were filled with suspected pornographic images of minors along with over 600 files on a lap top computer."

Since he disappeared, federal prosecutors have also upgraded the charges against Sanchez. He is now wanted for distributing child pornography, which is a more serious offense than possession. It's punishable by up to 30 years in prison.

Here is a detailed description of what agents say Sanchez looks like. He is described as a 37 year old Hispanic male, 5' 7", weighing around 140 pounds, with short black hair and brown eyes. He also has a spider tattoo on his forearm

Sanchez is considered armed and dangerous.
