Someone shot a man and woman inside their southwest Dallas apartment overnight, but the home invader did not injure the two young children also inside.
Dallas police responded to the Artisan Ridge Apartments on Preakness Lane, off Walton Walker Boulevard south of Jefferson Boulevard, just after midnight.
They found Venora Cranford and her boyfriend Jimmon Jackson both with gunshot wounds to the chest.
Cranford's 5 and 8-year-old children witnessed the shooting but were not hurt. They ran to their aunt's apartment in the same complex afterward and gave her an account of what happened.
Based on the children's statements, police now believe Cranford answered the door for a man who asked for her boyfriend. He shot them both and then ran away.
Charnetta Wallace, Cranford's best friend, cannot understand why anyone would want to hurt the mother of two.
"Especially for somebody that didn't deserve to go that way when they didn't have anything to do with it. It's not fair," she said.
Jackson's sister is convinced police will catch up with the person responsible.
"I'm pretty sure cops will get them because too many people knew what went on so he's gonna get what's coming to them regardless," Kauwana Reed said.
There were several men who were questioned in the case, however police have not yet made any arrests.
