FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - Fort Worth's proposed ban on the hiring of smokers as municipal employees appears to be heading nowhere.
The city's human resources department said last month that it was reviewing public and private tobacco-use policies to report back to the City Council on Tuesday.
But city spokesman Jason Lamers says it's unlikely that city staff will recommend the ban to the council. He says the preferred approach among public- and private-sector employers is offering employees help with quitting tobacco use.
