Michigan's Fallen Officers Honored and Remembered

Posted:

Fifty cops on motorcycles rallied Saturday to honor their own who gave their lives in the line of duty. Stop for a minute and consider what these people do: they keep the peace. And they're not who they are because they're cops; they're cops because of who they are.

"I don't know to call them heroes, I'm not sure what that means anymore," LeDuff said during the memorial. "These are just good people raised by good people who answered the call and that's how it's supposed to be. We don't believe our society has people like this anymore, like you. We don't know what to call you and them so we call you heroes. But, like my mom says, it's good to know we still have substantial men and women in this country. Tell them, "thank you." Indeed. Thank you."

Remembering the dead and their children. Will they grow old? Will their spouses move on? Will anybody remember?

"We don't want anybody to ever forget," said one participant.

Six officers died in the line of duty over the past year. For the record, they are: Officer James Bonneau; Officer Brian Huff; Corporal Matthew Edwards; Lt. Dan Kromer; Officer Larry Nehasil; Trooper Jeffrery Werda; and Officer Eric Zapata. Click on the photo section to see pictures of the fallen officers.
