Christ Way Missionary Baptist Church recently received a donation of 150-thousand dollars in new clothing. Its pastor, Melbourne Hampton, decided the gift could be used to bring multiple churches together that often seem separated. "The size of our churches the name of our churches (separates us) but we're all serving one God. So, regardless of our denomination or our church name we need to show our unity."
Pastor Hampton called the event "Unity Outreach for Christ" and opened it to all comers -- whether or not they have a church home -- in the parking lot of Plaza Now -- on Ledbetter in the Pleasant Grove district.
"We want each person to get two or three garments. Free of charge. Nothing is for sale. Everything is free."
Pastor Hampton said the young man who donated the clothing wants to remain anonymous.
