After a string of violent incidents in downtown, Minneapolis police are now unveiling a safety plan for the area that includes increasing foot patrols in the area and improving the visible presence of police.
On Wednesday, officials with the Minneapolis Police Department, Metro Transit Police, Hennepin County Sheriff's Office and Adult Probation Field Services, and the Downtown Improvement District met with downtown workers to tell them about the collaborative plan that aims to improve safety.
Horse patrols, T3 scooters, and other tools to be used by law enforcement were on display as officials detailed how more foot beats and other summer strategies will unfold downtown.
Part of the plan also includes proactively engaging groups of young people positively while enforcing curfew ordinances.
The plan's authors say the ultimate goal of the summer safety strategy is to address livability issues and ensure that downtown remains a vibrant and safe place for professionals, residents, and visitors.
