IRVING, Texas -
Dozens of local teens got a chance to see what it's like in the big leagues today when the Dallas Cowboys hosted 160 student-athletes at its annual Dallas Cowboys U football camp at Valley Ranch.
The teens, from DFW-area schools, were divided into eight teams -- each coached by a different Dallas Cowboys player. The teams played in the Dallas Cowboys U "Super Bowl," and this year's winner was Team Witten, coached by Jason Witten, Dez Bryant, Barry Church and Brandon Carr.
Team Witten has a 4-0 record at the camp.
The 7-on-7 games gave the young players a chance to show off their skills on the field while learning team-building and life-skills instruction in the annual clinic.
"There's a lot of talent out here," said Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan from the sidelines. "These guys are impressive."
Most impressive to observers was the enthusiasm level of the Cowboys players as they coached their teams. Dez Bryant and Barry Church were whooping, chest bumping, high-fiving and cheering louder than nearly any fan at any of their own games.
Student player Juan Robinson was very appreciative of the experience. "It meant a lot because the Cowboys are my favorite team," he said.
"To have Jason Witten telling me I did a great job, and I caught a great pass and I have great hands and things like that? Man, that was unbelievable," said Robinson.
The Cowboys U camp is underwritten by a grant by the Gene and Jerry Jones Family Charities.
