DeKalb County police say they believe the man responsible for killed a 19-year-old man showed up at the victim's funeral. Investigators say they think 28-year-old Marcus Ventress came to the Victory of the World Church in Stone Mountain during Ryan Guider's funeral, and tempers flared outside following the services.
Police said witnesses told them Ventress was in the parking lot outside the church, and he may have had a gun. Some witnesses said he fired shots up in the air.
Police say they caught up with a suspicious vehicle carrying five men believed to be involved in the shootings a short time later at North Hairston Road and Sell Ridge Road. Officers stopped the suspicious vehicle, but it's not known if Ventress was inside it. No other details have been released.
On June 4, DeKalb police said they were looking for Ventress, who is accused of shooting Guider several times in retaliation for Guider allegedly burglarizing Ventress' home. Sources tell police Guider stole jewelry, cash and drugs from Ventress' home, and punched his mother. Ventress allegedly shot and killed Guider on May 26.
Police also said Ventress was wanted for aggravated assault in connection to a shooting at an apartment on Treecrest Parkway, which sources say he believed was Guider's residence.
Prior to the shooting outside Guider's funeral, investigators said they considered Ventress to be armed and dangerous. They say he served a six-year sentence in federal prison on drug trafficking charges, and he was also jailed in Indiana on a cocaine possession charge. Investigators say he is currently on parole and probation for those charges.
