Three people drowned in two area lakes over the weekend, and according to local police, all the victims had something in common: none were wearing life vests.
The first happened Saturday at Lake Lewisville when a 34-year-old man fell out of a boat near Oakland Park, on the north side of the lake near the I-35 bridge. Family members who were on the boat with him called 911 when the man didn't resurface.
That happened about 8:30 p.m. Saturday night; rescue crews searched that night and all day Sunday but the man's body has yet to be recovered.
Then on Sunday, two drowning accidents were reported on Joe Pool Lake in Grand Prairie.
Police there say Jesus Castaneda jumped into the water when he saw the flotation device carrying his three children flip over.
The 32-year-old man managed to save his three youngsters near Lynn Creek Park, but Castaneda was pulled unresponsive from under the surface by the Grand Prairie Police Department about 2 p.m.
A short while later, a couple on a tube being pulled by a boat stopped near Jet Ski Beach. Police say the rope from the tube became entangled in the propeller. While the woman made it safely back into the boat, the man slipped under the water's surface and disappeared.
Police will look for his body again at first light on Monday.
