A study says men are happier when they do more chores, so FOX 9's Rob Olson asked men if they agree.
It's hard to not be skeptical about the statement "men like doing housework," but a study from Cambridge University shows that domestic arguments decline and general happiness improves when guys help out with dirty dishes and laundry.
Researchers made their claim after surveying 30,000 people in 34 countries, saying husbands and boyfriends feel guilty when hey don't do their share of work around the house. Respondents were asked how much time they spent on chores like cooking, washing, cleaning, shopping and maintaining the home.
The team conducting the survey said they expected to find conflict would worsen when men performed more housework, but the study said an increased support for gender equality caused men to feel uncomfortable when women did the lion's share of work in the home. The study also said women are becoming more assertive about informing their partner when they are dissatisfied.
Still, the results do run contrary to the large volume of research finding that men continue to let wives and partners perform most of the housework even as women advance into education and careers.
